About me.

I'm Harvey and have broadcast professionally under the name 'Harvey Lee' for over 25 years in the radio industry. I worked from tech op to overnight shows, to freelancing at many stations, having a national breakfast show to 1.2 million listeners and produced and presented shows on different stations in different time slots, in various formats to different audiences in many areas. I have spent the majority of my career in Essex (a full list of the stations I have worked at is below) I have been the head of music, commercial producer (making adverts) promoter, advert scheduler, music scheduler and have worked closely with sales and promotions. I have a wealth of experience in radio broadcasting.
In 2020 I started training as a counsellor and now fully qualified I decided all my experience and expertise could help develop the talent of future generations of presenters reach their full potential and either develop their skills, or help them progress in an amazing industry full of rewards, opportunities, fun and experiences that I am so grateful for having.
I started my radio career in 1997 after seeking work experience in the newsroom at Essex FM, (I was working for Tesco at the time while presenting on Hospital radio and it was time for me to chase my dream).
Back then, Essex FM broadcast from Southend and it had its sister staion Breeze am also in the same building. During work experience I asked around for work and was offered a role as a 'tech op' for Breeze AM. 'Tech op' means I would work in a studio and playing pre-recorded shows made by other presenters to make them sound live (this was before the technological advances in play out systems that we have today where no Tech op is needed) When the shift finished I would go into another studio to make a demo / show reel (A pre-recording of how my show could sound) I would then put that tape (an actual tape) on the desk of any presenter, programme controller or manager that would listen and I would ask them for feedback, with the aim of improving and getting a job as a presenter (this was a fairly typical route for presenters to get their first on-air role)
In 1997 Essex FM was full of amazing radio professionals and it was a fantastic learning environment which would be hard to find today.
My first presenting job was in 1998 for Breeze AM and this eventually helped me work for their big sister station Essex FM where I presented overnights (2am - 6am) During this time I learned the basics, made plenty of improvements and more importantly learned from my mistakes. From there I moved onto be a 'Swing jock' for a national UK radio station (Swing jock is a Presenter that is used when a regular presenter is absent) and this led eventually to me having my own show and finally presenting a breakfast show on a national station (Atlantic 252) to over a million listeners (that station changed its format in 2001 and is no longer is existence) I moved back to Essex (To be closer to friends and family) and took a show on my local radio station that was about to re-launch, here I learned how to produce and schedule adverts and schedule music.  I spent several years presenting shows at various stations before returning to Essex FM presenting my own show until it was networked and relaunched as Heart where I worked until the station was fully networked (shows were no longer broadcast locally) in 2019. Now, I work as a counsellor and find that I have 25 years of experience that I would like to pass on to the next generation of broadcasters.  I'd love to have a chat with you, wherever you are in your broadcast journey and see if I can help you to get the best out of your broadcasting ambitions.
I have presented shows on the following stations:
Essex FM, Atlantic 252, Chelmer FM, Dream 100, Dream 107.7, SGR Colchester, Hereward FM, Q103 Cambridge, Ten17FM, Hertbeat FM, Breeze AM, Chelmsford Radio, Southend Radio, Capital Gold, Classic Gold, Actual Radio, Heart Watford, Heart Norfolk, Town 102, Tindle Radio Network, Heart Cambridge & Heart Essex.
